“Tara held such a beautiful, solid space (not everyone has developed that ability). It is quite noticeable energetically as I was able to have a deep experience within my Sacred Garden. Thank-you again!”

Grief & Gratitude
About
Both grief and gratitude are vital liberatory practices. In the days leading up to this session (or even over the entire first half of this lunar cycle!), you may wish to note situations of celebration and mourning as they happen. Then, under the light of the Full Moon, you are invited to join us as we explore reconnecting with our feelings and sharing in full expression.
You may choose to bring a cup of nourishment (i.e. tea, water, coffee, cacao, etc.) and/or anything that is comforting to you for self-care and support.
Please note:
- There will be no trained counsellor present; this is a brave space for you to lean into as you wish.
- This is not a strategizing session or a place to give/receive advice. It is a place to give/receive empathy.
- This is a live session only; there will be no replay available so please ensure that you are able to attend during the time that it is offered.
Accessibility
- A video-capable device is recommended but not required. Attendees may keep their videos off for privacy or comfort, and are free to leave at any time.
- This session will not be recorded.
- This session will be in English. Zoom’s auto-captioning feature will be enabled.
- It may be helpful to have something to write on and something to write with during this session.
- This is a trauma-informed, invitational space. You may take part in/skip any exercises as you wish.
- Please email Connect@TheOnePersonRevolution.org for other accessibility needs and/or questions.
How is this an expression of Patañjali’s Yoga?
In the first pāda (book) of the Yoga Sūtra, Patañjali describes seven antidotes to distractions that prevent us from even beginning our engagement in yoga practice. The following two antidotes are the inspiration for this session:
Yoga Sūtra I.33
Sanskrit Language with Devanāgarī Alphabet:
मैत्रीकरुणामुदितोपेक्षणां सुखदुःखपुण्यापुण्यविषयाणां भावनातश्चित्तप्रसादनम्
International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration (IAST):
maitrī-karuṇā muditopekṣāṇāṃ sukha-duḥkha-puṇya-apuṇya-viṣayāṇāṃ bhāvanātaś-citta-prasādanam
An English Translation:
Mentality brightens, and gets to be of a serene disposition and good humour, when one takes on an attitude of friendliness towards the pleasant, of compassion for those who suffer, of joy for the meritorious, and of equanimity towards the unmeritorious.
Yoga Sūtra I.36
Sanskrit Language with Devanāgarī Alphabet:
विशोका वा ज्योतिष्मती
International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration (IAST):
viśokā vā jyotiṣmatī
An English Translation:
Or when the heart is set on being luminescent and free from sorrow.
In this first antidote (YS I.33), you are guided not to bypass your problems, but to practice ridding yourself of unhelpful reactions to even the objectionable in life. And in the second antidote (YS I.36), you are guided to increase the sattva (illuminative quality in Nature) in your emotional core, freeing yourself from the weight of your troubles.
This Mourning & Celebration session is an expression of these antidotes in practice.

The Reclaim. Framework

In the reclaim. framework, this session falls within (p)reclaim., meaning that it is intended as an antidote to distractions that scatter the mind and impede one’s ability to practice yoga. You can read about all parts of the framework here: www.theonepersonrevolution.org/the-reclaim-framework.
PARTICIPATE IN THE GIFT ECONOMY
The gift economy is an invitation to practice questioning the market economy, as well as an effort to support a needs-based flow of resources.
You can read more about it here: https://www.theonepersonrevolution.org/gift-economy/
As an estimate, it will take approximately $15 CAD per person to make this offering viable. You are invited to contribute an amount that feels generous and financially sustainable for you. If you are not able to contribute any amount, please choose zero. If you are able to contribute more, please consider covering the cost for one or more participants who cannot contribute.

Welcome! I am grateful for the opportunity to share this digital space with you. My name is Tara (they/them) and I am a Yoga philosophy teacher.
My vision is an uprising of the one person revolution, where every human being has the freedom to choose to take effective self-responsibility. As such, my offerings center on empowering clients to take charge of, and be responsible for, their own life.
I have completed 575 certified hours in Yoga studies, and am currently in the midst of completing 100 continuing education hours. I am also in the process of becoming a Certified trainer in Nonviolent Communication. You can find out more about my experience here: www.theonepersonrevolution.org/about-tara/#experience.
What I continue to understand more deeply on this journey is that revolutionary work necessitates both mourning and celebration for its sustainability. We are often not taught how to do either of these things well due to western imperialism’s devaluing of emotion.
This session is an opportunity to start getting your in you reps, building your muscles of mourning and celebration; make sure that your revolution is a sustainable one! (Thank you to Resmaa Menakem for this ‘reps’ metaphor!)

“It’s so refreshing to connect with like-minded folks in a safe space where I can absorb different teachings, take part in movement practices, work with the medicine of cacao, and ultimately allow my true self to be seen and heard.”

“Tara did an amazing job of leading the group; well spoken, gentle, and set the tone for a safe space. I really felt heard. They are very knowledgeable and professional. Best circle I have been to!”
